For barmy people perhaps

but in Devon they are buns the larger variety are are called haps and far better if they are wholemeal. To paraphrase some northern person " there nowt as queer as folk thee knows". On a trip to the Lake district we stayed in a hotel that had its own local numbering system
and only allowed smoking in the bar but kept a huge selection of ashtrays in dining room to taunt all us silly southerners who smoked ( I did at the time so was a miserable stay) I no longer smoke & am far better off health and finances wise

Bread buns South of the Tees too - them long, thin "finger rolls" are better with a coat if white icing on 'em

The really big barmcakes were called ovenbottoms when I used to go to the bakers as a kid, big as dinner plates they were.
