MGZT Not starting

I have just become a proud owner of MGZT 160 2.5 V6.

I have had no problem with the car, until the key fob broke and I could not use the remote control to open.

So I bought a new fob of ebay and changed it over, straight forward until I went to open the car, I had to use the key and then the engine would not start. no turnover nothing, But all the electrics work and I can lock the car with the remote.

Can any body help please. I am not a mechanic just love MGZT.

Did you swap the transponder over from the old key?
