And for those who missed it:

Explanation (I know it works for pre-facelift. Someone else will have to confirm if this works for the newer style headlamps or not...):

Stand next to your front wheel (either one) just beside the lights. Look towards the middle of the car/grille. Whilst looking in that direction focus your line of sight on the inside edge of the mainbeam housing. You should see the words "xenon technology" embosses/printed on the casing.

Hope this helps. If you need a better explantion, then let us know!

To confirm your statement Simon, it is the same on the facelifts.

I think the important term here is Xenon 'HID' - High Energy Discharge. Many members will have seen and installed 'Xenon bulbs' with the assumption it provides the light output of the OEM Xenon system. That's clearly not so and is a area of some confusion.

Well I retrofitted ordinary projector units to my X Reg 75. However, about a year later I decided to fit an Xenon HID kit with ballast etc to the H7 dipped beam (as quite a few of us on here have done). Dipped beam is on the outside lamps.

The sidelights have been fitted with high quality PIAA LED units, also with ballast to prevent bulb failure warnings. Sidelights and main beam are on the inside lamps.

It looks to me like you may have Xenons but usually xenon technology is written on the inside of the lamps.

Alternatively why don't you just take the bulb out and have a look - you will soon know it it is an ordinary H7 bulb!

Pete

Unfortunately, 99% of the ebay sellers market their ordinary halogen bulbs as "Xenon HID" these days to make them sound more attractive which makes things difficult for everyone. There's supposed to be laws to protect us (The Sale and Supply of Goods Act) but it doesn't seem to mean much on ebay. The genuine Xenon bulbs sell for between £50 and £150 but they are very rare on ebay.
