Mmm yes and I wonder how many hungry kids have got Sky TV at home!!
Sometimes it's all about priorities. Many moons ago as a Tv engineer I was amazed how very poor families had no carpets Etc but had the latest SKY equipment and the top most expensive monthly package which I could never afford!

Nobody can deny that that is true in some cases, however the impression that I got from many of the callers to that programme was that there is widespread hardship. As someone who has been self employed for 13 years I have to say the last 3-4 have been very much quieter. The economy is on it's knees and ordinary working folk are only spending on necessities, not their little luxuries.

I don't believe this for a second. for the past 3/4 years i've been working 20 hours a week, my husband hasn't been working. due to my huge (ha ha) 20 hour a week salary he's not entitled to jsa, the only help we get are tax credits. We don't get any other benefit including council tax. My children eat very well. The difference is I don't drink, smoke, use drugs, we don't holiday abroad, we don't have multiple games consoles or a flat screen 50" TV. As I've said before my only extravaganz is my car. If children aren't eating it's cos the parents are being frivolous with money or spending their benefit on fags and booze.

You can't deny times are harder but was listening to the radio about talking ourselves into a deeper recession, both media and public are to blame. We need to encourage the economy not depress it.
I'm not going to talk about Politicians. Fire them all and bring in expert managers. [Blood beginning to boil]

You are not wrong, I just struggle with the boundless ineptitude.

Just had my payslip for the last month, and due to changes in tax, public sector pension contributions, national insurance, etc my pay has got down by £10 - even less disposable income to spend to get the country out of recession.
We don't have Sky, xbox, Nike; son has grown up and left home. We don't smoke or drink, and don't go abroad for holidays; can't afford to do any of these now if we wanted to. |
