you can use a trolly token which can be pulled out after releasing the trolly, to use on next one..

Didn't know you could pull out prematurely
I've never used one, none of the supermarkets where I am have little pound thingies on, Asda has a little trolley house with metal shutters where they lock them up when they are closed.
