# engine where and how?
Hello to all and everybody.
I'm desperate to read and to take a picture of the engine number beginning by 25K4F... My KV6 is a LHD one. Apart dismantling the whole under bonnet is there any trick or tip for anybody mildly skilled? Pictures greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

It's near the gearbox bell housing joint, look to the left when you can get in far enough

Thank you Andy.
But you know when one like me isn't a petrol head one thing is to see where it's located on a bare sketch and another one to find it on the spot under the bonnet from above among all that crammed stuff... It looks I think I've found a number engraved on the metal somewhere rather low and close to the bulkhead at the 'back' of the engine (see the arrow), but what puzzles me is that there are only several figures not beginning by 25K4F. I've just ordered a camera device to connect to my smartphone to see and take a picture of that number if I can. Thank you for your help.

Bump!
A clue anyone? BTW I've taken a pic of the only number I can see at the back of the head block (see the arrow on the previous pic) with the fabulous device I've just got from Amazon (Pancellent, borescope for Android - not that shockingly expensive, 27€, good quality make). What could be that number 09121D0039??? Thanks a lot to take me out of the fog...

I don't think it is possible without removing the gearbox. I don't have personal experience of the V6 but the pics I've viewed online show the engine number on the mating surface of the engine and the gearbox. The site in the following link has a few pics of this showing both Rover 75 and Land Rover Freelander engines which I suspect are the same. Click

Thank you Willy. That's the one.
As an afterthought it looks the number I've spotted might be the gearbox one. Hence the right one is impossible to see directly. What an unfortunate design in our crammed engine bay...

Having thought about it further I don't think that the engine number would be sited out of view between the join of the engine and the gearbox. The pic in the link above could be misleading as the number area might have been cleaned and dressed to photograph giving the impression of a surface that has not been open to the elements.
On looking again and a bit closer at some of the other V6 pics on the site in the link above I think it likely that the bit with the engine number might protrude above the engine/gearbox join. The witness marks in the 2 pics in the following links I think support that view: Pic1 Pic2 |

Thank you so much once more Willy.
The pictures in your links above may give evidence that the aligned holes on either side of the engine number were intended to fit the engine to the - likely - gearbox. IMHO once fitted I doubt very much that the number could be still visible.

I don’t know anything about V6 engines, but I doubt they would have put the engine number somewhere that it could not be sent without separating the engine and gearbox.

Dave, did you have a close look on both pics above sent by Willy?
What do you think then? I've put a big arrow on the spot where should be the number featured in the second pic (the irregular shape of the spot looks a good evidence). Now here is my engine bay... (forget the red arrow which I'd added in the first place): where do you think my number may be and what should I take off to have a chance to look at it?
