It is legal, (just) but I would not be recommending it.
Only the Maximum technical permissible laden mass is relevant, because that is what the traffic police will look at, but additionally, when loaded with your possessions ready for a holiday, it is unlikely to be much below that limit.
The 1285kg miro is your ideal target, but you would have to travel very light indeed to achieve that.

I purchased a Swift Challenger 570 with an MRO of 1385 & MTPLM of 1595 planning to tow with my Rover 75 Tourer CDTI, I knew it was right on the limit but figured it would be ok. I have just sold the Rover 75 and had to upgrade to a tow car with greater capacity ... Although it pulled it ok, it just did not feel the car was in control of the caravan at all times, mainly on the motorway when overtaking lorries, the draft as you overtook made the caravan move the car about too much in certain cases .. I just felt it was far from ideal and not worth the risk and upgraded to a 4x4

I knew the caravan loaded by taking into account all weights going in it and the motor mover etc was around 1580 ... I would say its too heavy and not worth the risk based on my experience, but it did tow it and in general handled it. The only thing to note it was putting a lot of strain on the clutch when pulling away.

On asking most people seemed to be towing up to 1450 with no concerns.

Cheers folks, it would be towed empty for little weekend jaunts for me and the mrs, wouldn't be taking awnings or the kids/dog, just the water and waste butts etc
