Default One job leads to another....

I have just replaced the front brake pads on my 75 Tourer after the warning light came on (50,000 miles). In the process of removal, the sensor which clips onto the brake pad has disintegrated and now the warning icon won't go out!
I am tempted to disconnect it or simply cut it off near to the bodywork out of harms way. Does it work by completing a circuit through the disc once the sensor touches same or does it earth to the disc?

They are only about £15.00 for the pair. 1 front, 1 rear offside. The sensor is designed to wear and when it is worn through it goes open circuit. A loop of wire basically. As most folks will tell you it is standard practice to replace them when replacing disks.

Default One Job etc

Many thanks for your reply - in that case I will replace it - do you happen to know where the connector is - I don't recall seeing anything under the wheel arch. Also thanks for pointing out that there is a sensor on the back brakes too - maybe I should take a look at the pads there as well - I'm used to the idea that the back brakes go on forever!

Follow the sensor lead up and you will see it disappear into the engine bay. You will see the connector just inside the bay bit fiddly to get to.
