I wish insurance companies would give this option, I know of so many cars getting written off for fairly minor damage due to the cost of new parts and this ridiculous 60% rule they use.

My van was involved in a minor incident earlier this year and because I need it for work I had it repaired at my own expense within a week and claimed the costs back once the work had been done, you are allowed to do this but you take a chance that all the costs wont be covered. Van hire at £60 a day would soon cover the repairs.

Any way 4 weeks after the repairs had been done I had a call from the insurance engineer. He was telling me they will only cover the cost of the repairs up to 60% of the value of the van and the work I had paid for was 61% so technically the van was a write off. So I received a cheque £126 short of the repairs ( 2 days van hire ). I was amazed they would have written my van off for £126.

I didn't bother reporting this to my insurance company as they would only have written the car off. I paid for this out of my own money. Had I'd reported it they would have likely given £500 and then my next premium would have doubled.

Holy moly (sorry... didn't want to hijack this post but) ... de ja vue! same thing happened to me in 1987, was driving home after a rubbish party at about 3am on my usual route home, plenty of the 'Caution deer' signs around and have never even seen a deer for the 2 years I lived on that road. I'm doing about 55mph just cresting a hill when Suddenly out the corner of my eye I thought I saw something launch itself in front of my car (capri 2.8) then .... crash ... a fully grown stag literally landed square on the bonnet of my car! slammed the breaks on and screeched to a stop, lots of steam, smell of rubber from the locked wheels and a totally smashed in bonnet, and only one headlight working.
I got out of the car only just able to see the stag trying to get itself off the ground, first thing I thought was ... c**p it's half dead... what the hell do I do now! After what seemed a lifetime of watching and panicking about what to do about it, it suddenly just sprung up, snorting like a bull and making the weirdest noises, quite scary really, regained it's composure and literally leapt off into the woods that lined the road, I was amazed it could move at all let alone run off!
I can only assume it was in shock!
I limped my car home on one dodgy headlight and trying to see through a cloud of steam, got it into the garage and omg... my lovely 2.8 injection capri was a mess. Bumper, radiator, Bonnet, slam panel, both front wings, all the front lights, grill, and the list went on.
Just couldn't believe it ... travelled the same road for two years, never even seen a deer on it then ... first one I see totals my car... Go figure eh!
Anyway ... I would never have believed a stag being hit at over 50mph would ever be able to survive let alone run off and live to tell it's mates. lol.
As said, so sorry to hijack your post but had to share that story as it's been over 30 years and never heard another like it until now.
Hope you get your car all sorted. 'Buck' up, the insurance will fork out the 'doe', I'm sure it won't be too 'deer'.
I'll go away now.

One thing I could use some advice on.

The replacement front bumper has the foglamps fitted, whereas my car being a 96 Classic just had plastic blanking plates.

We connected this to the loom on the body, which has 6 wires going to the plug, so it appears at least some of the wiring is already in place. I suspect that given the car is a late facelift, some of the wiring might already have been in place from the factory? Commonising parts as Rover ran down production of the 75?

I know I at least need the panel fitted with dual switches.

You may have to connect a wire underneath the engine fusebox, some cars did not have the required wiring from the fusebox.

I'm sure all the facelifts have the wiring in place to the plug that joins the bumper harness, what will be absent is the front fogs relay, and of course the LSM fascia.

PM me your address, and I'll send you an LSM fascia with both switches
