Handbrake cable clip fuel tank strap p/n
Help!
Has anyone got the part number for the fuel tank strap plastic handbrake cable clip? (sits in the U of the strap, and holds both cables) Just swapping the tank strap and the original clip is too loose on the new strap. Cannot find the p/n anywhere on Rimmers! Well it was tight on the rusty one on the car, and loose on the one made in India.
Usual story, new parts not even made to spec properly yet again. Its a TRW part after looking at it closely. Good spot on that part, I missed it when browsing, thanks! |

Wow, what an exciting life you live Ross
I wonder if the crustiness of the original tank strap had somehow stretched the original clip. These are not cars to worry about if you suffer from OCD I'm afraid |

Not gonna lie, I probably have a slight OCD.
My old Coupe Turbo when I sold it looked like it had almost come out of the factory. its a bit of a shame, as generally the BMW/German parts just fit, no fuss. Im stuck with the ZT for a while longer, the idea of taking a £18k Passat BiTDI 4Motion to Kosovo/Bosnia is just not on the cards. Would go missing faster than a poodle in a Lions cage. 3rd Party only in these necks of the woods, easy way to kiss goodbye to £18k. Last edited by T16; 3rd December 2018 at 18:27.. |

That Rimmers part was the wrong one.
I think I found the actual clip though in a TRW catalog. Any clues on how I could order a few or will it be automotive industry only? |

OK, these cable clips are for standard welders 5mm stud.
The genuine old part was 5.00mm, and the cra_pola Indian part was just 4.5-4.6mm, which means the clips just slide off. What a load of dross. Xpart if you are reading this, your re-manufacturing is useless, it is beyond rubbish. The original was a proper stud, with a circular base, nicely spot welded on. The indian one, is basically just a flipping screw, welded on by somone with the welding skills of a Hyena. Bet you can't guess what I am going to do next Brian? :p Im going to take the original stud off, and weld it to the Indian part, then refinish the component again the 2-Pac offshore paint. Despite being 100% mental, I would make a DARN good nuts and bolts classic car restorer, or perhaps a really bad one that goes bankrupt. Also the Indian welds are extremely fragile where the cross brace is barely tacked to the main sections, its so weak its nuts. That will be getting welded up properly as I wouldnt trust it in the long run. I know this because I had another indian part in this cowboy powdercoaters, and he managed to snap the welds right in front of my face with barely any force. If you think I am exaggerating, then remember those rear arms where you could fit cardboard through.....:p Given the fact this car is likely to go across Russia/Siberia, it needs to be 100% robust as possible, no chances can be taken whatsoever. I will post some pics of the correctly welded and re-enforced part! Last edited by T16; 8th December 2018 at 00:31.. |
