I just bought a cheap plastic Polish one, and some decent fixings. 1 hole needed altering to make a good fit. Seems I have been lucky on that, as many report problems trying to make it fit. Still secure, doing its job after 17,000 miles and 2 oil changes. Can't complain, I'm a practical motorist rather than a classic purist.

You will also get more filth in/on the engine and anything that the cover is now no longer covering. Subframe is also partly shielded, along with ,obviously, anything that it used to protect. Drove mine around 5 miles after doing an oil change, and definitely more noisy. It went straight back on and will stay there. Mine has a few rips in it and next year it will be repaired with fibre glass matting.

None whatsoever, they are not necessary and do not worry if you don't have one fitted, mine are currently behind the shed

I've covered cumulatively more than 100,000 miles without one fitted, and with no effect on reliability, road noise, or fuel consumption.

It is also nice to have the early warning of a leak occurring without it being masked by the undertray, and not to have advisories at MOT time for components hidden from the inspectors view by said item.

Don't worry about it, I certainly don't

No undertray on either of mine, nor would I fit one! If there is a leak of any sort I will see it.
