Cool On this day

DISASTER ON ARKLEY GOLF COURSE.

Unbelievably it is 48 years to the day (29th November 1975) since Graham Hill crashed his Piper Aztec twin engined light aircraft on Arkley golf course.

He and his eponymous team were on the return journey from the testing at Paul Ricard of the new Embassy Hill car for the forthcoming season. The image of the team testing at Silverstone was taken prior to leaving for France. Graham, plus driver Tony Brise and manager Ray Brimble, designer Andy Smallman and mechanics Terry Richards and Tony Alcock were all aboard the plane when it crashed and all perished.

There were significant questions about the airworthiness of the aircraft and the wisdom of flying in very unfavourable conditions but none of this shielded fans from the shock of losing such a talented team of people.

A poignant memory, thank you.

How Grand Prix Meetings have changed.

F1, now with barristers in the background (or foreground)

No longer for me, but I still keep a watching brief.

Regards

Mike
