Default Rain leaking onto light control module

And this the result.

Surprisingly it still works once it's dry. I've covered the top of it with tape leaving the back and bottom vents free for ventilation and any water to run out.

The water can be felt on the other side of the cubby hole above the light unit but it's difficult to see where from. I'm wondering about high up on the windscreen seal where there seems to be a gap, that it's running down the inside of the pillar before creeping down inside the dash.

I can't see that it's coming through any grommets.

Generally a windscreen leak, needs sorted quickly as the lsm units have been known to catch fire!

This kind of leak killed yet another LSM for me. What is the best way to end this?

Well for me the tape over the top of the vents on the LSM cured it, although you should really try to fix the leak.

I replaced all the screws to the LSM with scrivets to give me quick access should the worst ever happen and the LSM starts to catch fire all i would need to do is rip it out no screws to tend with.

Will look for photos tomorrow and post them up, also my intentions come this spring summer is to rig up some kind of water guard over the LSM.

Agreed on replacing the screws with scrivets! Done that; I've alo made a cover over the LSM, built from plasticard. Totally out of normal sight, it should divert any water leak should one ever occur.

Hi Stewart.
Yes i did mine back in 2020 a few photos below so others know what we are talking about.

Panel below the steering column two screws to remove.
1

2

Then you can pull off the panel a few clips at the top are just holding it on.
3

4

With the panel removed you will see a screw at the bottom of the (LSM) light switch module, remove this.
5

6

With that screw removed you then need to remove the two at the top of the LSM.
7

8

The LSM module can now be pulled forward.
9

You then remove the screw retaining clips.
10

11

Also the one at the bottom.
12

With those removed you replace them with the female part of the scrivet.
13

14

Bottom one.
15

16

Offer the LSM back to the car this time using the male part of the scrivet.
17

18

Now do the same with the panel replace the fixing with scrivets.
19

20

21

22

23

You can use the screws that were originally used or use some stainless steel ones with a larger head.
24

25

The panel should now be able to just pull out of the scrivet with out using a screw driver in panic mode

I will post up how i did or intend to put a cover over the top of the LSM at a later date, unless Stewart has some photo to post of how he did his.

Windscreen leaks have already been mentioned but I found another couple of potential sources for water ingress when investigating a BCU problem. Granted, the BCU is on the other side of the car, but they could still apply.

One is damaged scuttle clips: https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=259800

The other, and this was the cause on my car, was missing plenum drain tubes. If the rubber tubes are missing or not seated properly, water can travel to places it shouldn't.

The sunroof drains could possibly be another potential source, although I never looked into that as my car doesn't have a sunroof.

Hi Chris.
sorry no i didn't get round to it has i sold the tourer before i got round to looking into it, the reason i was not in any hurry because i did not have a leak in that area, it would have been just has a preventive modification.

If you have a leak into the L:SM i would remove it if you can and dry it out, or find the leak asap.
