Good luck with the diagnostic work - I've worked on many KV6s, and I've yet to see a single HGF case (despite being presented with at least 10 that were 'definitely head gasket mate').
I'd do a full compression test and go from there - if you're DIY-handy a decent compression tester is a handy thing to own, and they're not too expensive. I am seeing a few cases of worn piston rings as the cars age - usually these are vehicles that have been laid up for a number of years, I'm guessing the rings have 'seized' into position on the grooves of the piston itself.

I've had 2 190 lumps blow the head gasket, it's more common than the nay sayers would have you believe, centre cylinder front bank is the usual culprit.

Just a quick update on the problem. Managed thanks to DMGRS to deliver a full set of coil packs and plugs(plus some other bits ) and Happy Days! One of the rear bank was cracked so the misfire has gone and no codes after a brisk trip down the dual carriageway. Now armed with fresh mot just need to attend to the cracked and leaking thermostat. Just goes to show there are some less than honourable garages out there so a code reader is a must.
Wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope to meet you at a future event. |
