I can see what you mean Steve, but I have to say when I worked for Welkom Honda, (in South Africa) back in the 80's I had a Demo bike, that I used as a company bike, (one of many) which was a CX500 Custom. I found it so easy to ride in traffic and around town with adequate low end torque, but a bit uncomfortable at high speed, had to really hang on!!! LOL. Was like the one below: (Better photo)...
And here it is with my wife standing next to it pregnant with my son at the time: (And yes, she rode pillion right up until the day before he was born!). But to carry on from that at one of our launches we had the "TURBO" version! Had the use of it for a couple of days... Down low it was a real slug, but be very aware because when that Turbo kicked-in you had better be ready. It was like a scolded cat!!! It was real nice looking aswell..... Here is me on the right and my boss Karl, (Centre) and colleague Colin, (Left) - we had some great laughs.... This was my personal bike at the time, bought it brand new! Loved riding back in those days, and of course the weather helped! Used to ride from Welkom, (SA) to Harare, (Zim) quite a few times. Couldn't do it now. Could, but would I really want to...???? lol.

Ahhh, Two more of the bikes I wanted...
The CX Turbo, which I remember reading at the time was done by Honda just to prove that they could do it. It would have been far easier putting the turbo on an across the frame four, but not as technically challenging. And the CB900F or is it a 750F? Just what I will be looking for next year. Always fancied a Bol d'Or, if I can find one.

Sorry, bad photo - this was a CB750FB. I did have a 900FC a couple of years later, but I burnt out a couple of Ex valves and Zimbabwe being Zimbabwe I couldn't get the parts but I managed to get a 750 motor and threw that in. Really went well until I sold it...
The Bol d'Or was OK, but the fairing made it feel clumsy - sorry.... I much preferred this, the CB1100R - AWESOME!!!

About the same era, mid 1980s I bought a new GPz750.
Most of them were firecracker red, but mine was silver like this one: They had the turbo version too. I quite fancied one, although they were well know for the surprise turbo kick. Even the salesman said that he had only sold a few, and everyone had crashed. Black and mean though.

Here's one of that era that I had up to a few years ago. Why oh why did I sell it?
And the (mini)Ninja that replaced it Mike

Yes Bob, I heard the Kawa Turbo was a right death-trap!!! But the GPZ750 was nice....
Mike, that 750K must have been a handful with that Windjammer Fairing!!!? The Ninja a definite step-up.... Here are a couple of other old dogs I used to ride, some good some not...lol. CBX550 - great little bike, again from when I worked at Honda. The only bike I came off of. Well, knocked off really by a cement mixer! Luckily nothing major. The CB900 I mentioned earlier: An old IT175 - good fun it was.... A KZ1000 - handled like a piece of you know what! And old Kawa Z500 - fun little bike! Loved the noise.... And a couple more of the 750.... I'll leave you all in peace now..... Thanks for letting me share...

When you say clumsy, do you mean at low speed or in general?

Sorry Steve I should have said at lower speeds. Sitting on the bike the front of the fairing just seemed soooooo far away, it really did look like an 'Ad-On'...
Also, maybe not in the UK so much, but your legs felt like they were cooking because the only air that really got to them was after it had passed through the Engine Cooling Fins. Of course on modern bike this is alleviated to some degree by liquid cooling. But of course this was my personal taste, but at the time it generally wasn't liked - sorry. If you look at a 900 naked so to speak, and a Bol D'Or, it just doesn't look right.

Me too, by the time mine had clocked up 300k it looked like it had landed without a parachute, but it always started. It was called Mutt.
