Clutch kit
While perusing the possibilities of using a Freelander 1 TD4 clutch kit in conjunction with an LUK slave cylinder, I happened upon this........
LINK This being manufactured by AP Lockheed, would be as close as you can get to fitting a real original equipment setup as would have come from the factory. In the end I bought a genuine Land Rover item, as I already have a new LUK slave in stock, which I will be fitting to the ZT once the project 75 is reassembled I just thought it may be of interest to anyone thinking of a clutch in the near future Brian |

As one other member has pointed out on here, Delphi make a slave cylinder using the original AP tooling, so this is an option for an OE spec slave replacement, instead of the LUK or Tazu metal items. I think the seal/hydraulics on the Tazu are good, but the release bearing is under-greased and can get noisy after a few miles (I have a little bit of release bearing noise on my Tazu slave after about 8,000 miles use).

How noisy? I am looking to replace my clutch in next few months and LUK kit is top of my list. What is best alternative to Tazu slave?

LINK Now the Freelander pipework requires a bit of adjustment to allow for fitting to the 75, but there is always the option of simply fitting the pipework from the slave cylinder you remove. I performed a post mortem on a Tazu metal slave cylinder, and there was signs of transfer of the seal to the cylinder walls, and the the actual thrust bearing was almost devoid of grease. This could have been down to the fact it had been incorrectly installed, or a defect in manufacture, but either way I'd rather not take the chance if I'm honest. Brian |

I've tried lux and found it a bit firm. Borg and beck was lovely. I'm about to put eurocar parts transmech. I've just put one in the tomcat with no early issues so here goes nothing. Old one hasnt failed but first gear has so replacement box time.

Good job Brian...
However.. last time I got my hands on a "genuine" AP slave for the ZT it was a metal piped job, but not a freelander version. Is there any real difference other than the pipes with the slaves? When mine is due a clutch, AP all the way for me. Nice one. |
