Antilock brakes - rear sensors
Does anyone know what's inside the tip of these sensors?
They were jammed solid in the trailing arm/hub and I had to drift them out with the metal handle off a box spanner, which has dented the tips. If they need replacing, now is the time to do it before the subframe goes back in because it blocks access to the grommet that goes through the floorpan. RH sensor (next two pics) is the most dented. Following two pics are the LH sensor. I can't see any way of testing these things without having any hubs on the car. Last edited by Blink; 3rd January 2020 at 14:59.. |

You did well to drift them out. They often have to be drilled out.
I'd say renew these sensors as a matter of course because they will inevitably suffer from the removing stage. The tip contains electrickery that generates a voltage pulse when each of the magnets on the bearing's reluctor ring rotates past. The pulse tells the ECU how fast the wheel's turning. TC |
