Default CDTi Water Leak

Six months of trouble free motoring (if we don't mention the fan controller and injectors 3 & 4) and my 75 CDTi has sprung a leak, causing the coolant to drain and an overheat.

I topped up the radiator and ran the engine - I think I located the leak.

Can I patch this hose, or best to replace? Also what is it?

It's a bleed hose, hence the knob on the top. On my car it's incorporated in the FBH (fuel burning heater) circuit. It's always best to replace a damaged hose.

It looks like you have two leak points here, the hole in the piping, and possibly the joint above it below the knurled vent cap.

The cap is the vent screw, like a brake bleed nipple, for bleeding air out of the "twists" of water coolant piping in front of the battery box where the FBH would be, if fitted. The piping is marked where to cut and remove the excess piping when fitting the FBH.

My vent screw developed a leak a couple of years ago and I stopped the leak by
1. Raising the knurled cap/ vent valve, as high as the piping will allow, stopping the water leaking out
2. Unscrewing, it may be quite stiff and need supporting the hose under the cap the knurled cap part way, and inserting a bead of the blue gasket cement around the gap and then re-tightened the cap. That cured the leak.

For the hole in the side of the piping, could you plug it with a small "pyramid" in rubber that could be pushed/wedged into the hole, without going right through and stuck in place with rubber cement.

I have just had an idea, using the plugs that are fitted in the plastic trim at the base of the windscreen, but not sure of the security of sticking plastic to rubber.

Or fitting a small nut and bolt with wider washers inside and out, through the hole, then tightening them together, again with sealant between the sealing surfaces.

.....Just had a look at Rimmers and found the hose https://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-PCH119334 and it costs £44.

See the extra note on the part register number 11, (the hose) which mentions the difficult-to-see vent valve.

Self-amalgamating repair tape is holding so far after ~25miles in 20 degree heat. I don't really have £44 to spend on a new hose at the moment!
