Default Chrome Ovals interior Door Handle

Help please , Chrome Oval in door handle keeps falling off , any one tried to glue this back on , if so what glue did you use ? , I have read the "how too" but do not want to go down the path of "melting the chrome pins into plastic receiver" . I have tried gluing but know joy.

I await the experts advice .

Super glue is normally effective for a while, but will break down again. Hot glue can work but messy.

I would urge you to try the hot melt, and with an old tip on a soldering iron, I had great success using cable ties as a makeshift welding media. Still on nearly two years later.

Hot melt every time, that’s the way they were originally made!

If you want extra plastic, remove a bit from one of the mugs on the handle it is the same plastic then.

Sorry, but I beg to differ to the answers above.

The oval's base has three lugs One at the front end and on the sides, top and bottom, which lock into the hole in the door card.

There is no need for any adhesives. That will only prevent it's easily controlled removal and spoil the door card.

The op's problem is that the inner chrome ring has become detached from the rest of the handle assy.
When made these chrome inner rings are indeed hot melted to the rest of the inner handle.
It is certainly the best action to hot weld them back into position using an old soldering tip.
Then the complete inner can be positioned into the door card and screwed to the door as you describe.

You could always make a trip to the next Nano meet 16th 17th March, where there is a box of about 4 full sets that have already been repaired, all you do is remove your broken handle from the car, take the corresponding one from the box, put in your old one then fit the repaired one to your car all FOC this as been available since 2012

Cool

I’ve used Blu Tack to make a temporary repair, and that was 4 years ago and still in place.

I have had the hot treatment - ie melt - but it eventually came away - last 18 months - Gorilla Glue -the American stuff - and it still appears to be holding tight

Gorrilla glued mine on. Drop of water on the chrome tags, and then the glue. Ggrrr.
