I also saw the programme. It looked like she stopped on the Worsley slip road. I, too, wondered what had caused the fire in the first place.

As per my first post as to what caused it,

It has happened before and although rare it was the LSM (Light Switch Module) that was found to be the cause.

Could have been the reason for this fire

I'm sure someone posted a newspaper article with a picture of this same incident some time ago.
LSM is the favourite cause of fire according to many articles I've read.

I often wonder how many poorly attempted mods are made to our cars and also does water accumulating due to blocked plenum drains or leaky roof drains, have the potential to cause fire?

One thread also refers to an area where chafing of wires can be a potential hazard.

Hi
A good question, if the LSM gets wet there is always the possibility it could break down and cook even when in a garage!
It's protected by a 50amp fuse so can easily burn. No real easy answers to this other than keeping it dry and making sure there is no corrosion on the multiplug contacts and the pins in the PCB.

I can only presume that the lady had speed locking enabled.

It would be a bit bizarre that a fire would start, disable the electrics and lock the doors... I also can't understand how she couldn't unlock the door, yet a passer by was able to, when the door locks are concealed below the door card.

Must have been desperately scary for the poor lady though.
