Definitely more likely to be corroded wiring - the sensors are quite reliable, but the wiring isn't well insulated.

Smile PDC Continual sounding

Not mentioned so far is the fact that any paint blistering on the sensors will trigger the continual bleep. I had this problem on my earlier 1.8T Tourer.

The unit senses the very small space between the inner face of the blister and the metal sensor, and thinks that this is the parking distance, hence the continual sounding.
Any blistering should be carefully scraped off and the sensor repainted. It worked for me.

Before finding the blistering was the problem, I had purchased a new unit, as mentioned by someone else above. This turned out to be an unnecessary. I still have it 7 years on - never been used.

Looking at it quickly, this seems almost certainly the cause, all four are blistered. Will have to wait a day or two till I can get my Dremel to gently tickle the blisters off it.

Default Parking sensors

I've an intermittent problem with my Contemporary SE 2.5 manual saloon . Most of the time the sensors/sounder work as they should do but every now and then it goes into annoying continuous tone every time I select reverse; it lasts for a couple of days and then reverts to normal
Is there a switch involved in the gear selection that opens the signal circuit , if so is that a possibility for my particular issue?
Does the sensor 'ticking' indicate a signal/normal function?
