That's good news boys.

The later pedal is far more sensitive than the old unit.
Most of the power is delivered in the first half of the pedal travel.
It's like the old potentiometer is linear and the later is logarithmic

One day I will compare the Voltage/verses pedal movement in mm between the early cylindrical and later square units on the T4 !!

You will notice a big difference when it is finally installed Bob

Cheers Jules.

My usual garage have been inundated with MOT's lately, and are having a short holiday at the moment, so I phoned two other local garages to arrange for the pedal to be fitted. One claimed to be too busy to do it, the other said they would call me back.... That was a week ago....

It would seem garages are non too keen on working on Rovers in this area as well.....

Thanks for the offer Jules, you are a star! On this occasion I wont need to take you up on it * but I will be popping over soon (ish) to get the high line whatsit fitted.

Meanwhile the wife of my usual local garage owner phoned to check if I had managed to get the pedal sorted. (she does the garage accounts so we know each other quite well) I told her the saga, and after she stopped giggling, she is going to ask her husband to ring me to get this blimmen pedal sorted out today! ---

Meanwhile, down on the farm, GeofWW has also offered to come round the m60 and up the M67 to fit the pedal for me! How nice is that!

I will be giving Geoff a ring later after I have spoken to my local mechanic.

It is great to know there are some really nice people around innit.... My thanks to you all... ..

Woe woe and thrice times woe!! The pedal doesn't fit!!! ..

I have once again talked to Rimmers on the phone, and the situation appears to be as follows:---

There is no replacement accelerator pedal for Mk1 diesel autos. BUT.. There is a replacement brake/accelerator unit that fits our cars in place of the older unit. According to Rimmers. The part number for the correct replacement unit is SKB001031PMA + plus the adapter lead prev mentioned.

Apparently we have to replace the whole lot for the new type mentioned above. I will confirm this when my new bits arrive and is fitted in my car.

As I understand it, they have modified the MK2 setup to fit the MK1 cars and are supplying the link adapter to make the elec connections required..

Fingers crossed, I will update this when I get the new parts and tried fitting them....... ...

The other cheaper way is just to replace the cylindrical throttle pot that links to your existing pedal. Second hand of course.

This is the early type throttle pot peddle assembly showing the pedal separate to pot via a linkage arm.
(On a 2002 CDT.)

The later type combined the pot into the pedal assy circa around late 2003
ie
Same time as they introduced the air temp sensor in the turbo hose,
Also ECM was updated from a 692 to a 340

Early type

Later type

Update, and more bad news really..

GeoffWW happened to have the full pedal kit for the Mk2 minus the potentiometer that he has used himself, and he very kindly popped over to see me yesterday with a view to fitting it. But.. It does look a bit more complicated than just changing pedals. Geoff kindly gave me the pedal kit he no longer needs so I can get them fitted.. Soooo......

I will contact Jules and arrange to have the pedals and my highline whatsit fitted as soon as the highline stuff turns up.. Poor Jules, now would be a good time to leave the country innit... lol...

Out of curiosity, does changing the pedal box require part removal of the steering column? It looks a bit like it.. ???
