Default Uneven tickover whilst in" drive "on auto.

Good morning.
I was just wondering does anybody else experience the same issues as me. If i come to a stop in my auto diesel and leave it in "drive " position and apply the brake the tick over becomes lumpy. Knock it into neutral and it smooths out. It seems to be worse when the engine is cold. Would the colder weather have any influence on this making the auto box oil thicker causing my car to idle lumpy.
It seems to be more noticeable when the weather is cold.
Regards
Johnny

I have noticed the same thing in mine. To relieve the drag on the drive-belts, I slip the selector up a notch into neutral, and watch for the traffic lights to change or any signs of the traffic in front moving, then slip it back into drive in time to move forward again without delaying the other cars in the queue behind me.

Don't forget when your stopped the engine is still trying to move the car forward so it's like your bringing the clutch up in a manual. Only way round is to put it in neutral if your concerned. Suppose it depends how rough it gets?

Cheers Geoff.
That's exactly what im getting. Does autobox fluid become thicker when colder and creates more friction in the torque converter when your laid up at traffic lights ect with the selectors in drive.

Default Lumpy

Does the rev counter fluctuate with this lumpiness. If not then the drag of
the engine against the auto box in drive is probably accentuating the fact that the engine mounts may need attention especially if the lumpiness is felt through the steering wheel and the front seats. Easy to check the LOWER engine mount as a first step.

Thanks again rrobson.
I thought if alot of members would of replied saying they've experienced the same thing in cold weather then i would feel alittle more assured its the norm.
Cheers
Johnny

Hi Wuzerk
Sorry i wasn't ignoring you bud ( just missed your post. ).
That's a good point what you made. My rev counter does fluctuate when in drive and is steady when in neutral. Im starting to think its when the oil in the auto box is thick on a cold morning that's causing this.
