Clone reg
Hi all
First of all hope all of you have a great Christmas and a safe one. Also to let you know my zt number plate has been cloned. Was caught doing 51 mph in a 30 in a place miles from me . Best of it all was on a blue zt . Mine is a blue zt . Took 2 hours today to sort out. So just keep a eye on your plates not been stolen. Have a good one and hope the new year is brilliant for of you Steve |

Only 2 hours! You were lucky. I was accused of invading a bus lane in Blackpool a few years ago. I pointed out that it was a white Corsa, from the photo, not my blue ZT, and in fact they had misread the number plate - furthermore, I was in attendance at a Council Meeting 160 miles away at the time, which the minutes confirmed. I still had to complete a form of explanation, and eventually was let off 3 weeks later!

Another forum member had his plates cloned. Identical cars BRG MG ZTT, the forum member lives in Cornwall and the cloned car was in Newcastle. Forum member received countless parking tickets and bus lane infringements. It was only the eagle eye of the forum member when he checked on the photo’s was he able to spot the difference’s in the cars. His has a tow bar, cloned car none. And the his car is a MK2 and the cloned car a MK1.
After a lengthy procedure he was given the all clear. The cloned car was eventually caught and the driver dealt with, and sadly the car was crushed.

I could understand them confiscating the car but crushing it is disappointing - was hardly the car's fault, was it.

It doesnt take Poirot to sort this out
You are just a short distance from me.
I had an altercation with a Blue ZT owner who assaulted me in a car park, some time ago. If it wasnt for the fact that I have a disability, then this young un would have been taught a lesson of life. Namely you dont mess with a veteran. He is seen regularly flaunting the law in Coventry, not that far from you! I have already rang West Mids Police to report him. You should not be paying any fines for something that clearly was not you or your vehicle. Decent folk dont need this kind of s**t. |

I had a similar carry-on with the registration of a car I scrapped many years ago - seems someone did a poor job of 'adjusting' their plate with tape, and it matched my old ZS's registration!
Caused no end of bother - I'd happily have taken 2 hours instead of the months of arguing with TFL, Dart Charge and several police forces. Absolute nightmare.

Need not be cloned to be accused of being in a hit and run accident. Happened to me twice.Over twenty years ago, I had a letter from police in Plymouth/Portsmouth, cannot remember which, that I had been in an accident with another car and done a bunk. Was able to prove that I was at work on that day until 12.00pm, and the accident happened earlier. The more recent one was again a hit and run in I think it was Lytllton? Road/street in Luton. This time it was around 5.20 pm. Again I could prove, with witnesses that I was at a friends house from 4.00pm until 6.40pm. Corroborated by my wife’s diary. The police told me that they would not be doing anything, but the person involved could possibly make a claim against me. Well they could try. In the first instance, a friend who was a Parking Warden told me, probably what had happened, was that they had only got part of the number plate details, and the police were trying to match up times and places to the possible various permutations of reg numbers. So it need not be that your number plate has been hijacked.
