Geoff as you have already issued the invoice they will have to pay it and you will have to pay VAT at 17.5% to HMRC.
I would politely inform your customer of this fact. |

Retail spending is only a fraction of the total spend on VAT. Whilst shops may not be putting their prices down, this will certainly have an impact on various other parts of the economy. For instance, in my line of work (construction client), we are now saving £50k a month on refurbishment VAT that we can now spend on other areas of the business.
