got a lecturing interview
After 25 years in engineering, and the dawning realisation that another 25 years would send me round the twist, Ive been yearning to put some of my knowlegde to use and inspire the next generation of engineers, Ive been on a prep course for preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector- now all I need is a foot in the door as a lecturer so I can get teaching hours under my belt to take my cert. ed.
Anyway, Ive wangled myself an interview for an electronics lecturing post at a local college- a salary drop but a life change of career if I get it. so may be quiet for a few days- I need to swot up for a presentation on how a three phase motor works, I know the principles but need to brush up on the detail.

first the good news.
Breezed the interview, and during the interview got a big fat wink from the sexy HR girl after I rattled off what to do in the case of continued absenteeism, had a call 2 hours after the interview to say the job was mine if I wanted it BUT after talking her up 2 salary points would still be taking a £900 a month salary drop. So , will be staying put for now, its been a water testing exercise, and its not the end of Black olive having the gift of the gab, will keep my options and mind open and see where it gets me ( apart from a slap from the missus)

Well that was an enlightening evening.
Just attended an open evening at Burnley college- they are after people with an engineering background for full and part time lecturing. Had a good chat with one of the blokes there who was very impressed with my aerospace background- as most of their engineering client base is from the aerospace supply industry. We discussed a curriculum manager job on the same salary im on now- but this may be a non starter as they are looking for a teaching and industry background- a tough call I suppose. Ill put in for it but dont expect to get it. However on the lecturing front they are after a wide range of part time lecturers and are extremely flexible in terms of lecturing hours and timetabling- I can start with 2 hours a week, and they will do my teaching diploma for free as I will be on the payroll. This means I can stay in my current job, and get qualified, and then think about moving into full time teaching in a couple of years ( or when the redundancies start at our place !!). So assuming it all works out that's me one happy bunny
