Default Help clutch gone

Clutch has stopped working and car is stranded on driveway. Phoned a couple of garages and have quotes of over £1000! Anybody got a realistic figure I should be looking at?

Welcome along....sounds like they are including a new DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) which is expensive and rarely needed.

You could try someone like Messenger who's near Crowthorne....

When you say the clutch has stopped working do you mean the pedal has fallen to the floor (in which case you are probably looking at the hydraulic cylinders which should be £400 - £450).

Or do you mean the car will not change gear but the pedal is engaging? In which case the clutch is likely to have failed and you can be looking towards a £1000 bill (to include the DMF).

Hope it is the former and good luck.

Derek

Join the AA and get the breakdown repair insurance, it'll cover the job up to £500

Mr. Clutch has quoted £545 for the clutch and the slave master cylinder + an extra £400 if the dual mass fly wheel needs changing...call me a skeptic but I'm sure they will insist it will need to be done when they've got it all to bits. Anyway, I'm going to check the clutch fluid level tomorrow and then bleed the system and see what happens.

Bled the clutch yesterday and I've got some clutch back. Strange though as the bite point is nearly at the bottom of the pedal and I woud have thought if the clutch had gone the bite point would be at the top? It isn't slipping either so wondering if it's just the slave cylinder shot. Anybody know if you can just replace the slave cylinder?

To do the slave cylinder is a gearbox out job.....so it's worth fitting new clutch whilst it's out

My cars done a tad over 170k. Are you sure dmf won't need changing? TBH if it needs to be done will prob end up scrapping the car as I couldn't justify the extra cost!
