Default 75 slave cylinder

Which ones of the slave cylinders availabe have plastic pipes? Do the plastic pipes have any real reducing effect on conducting engine vibrations to the body?

I don't think any have a plastic pipe now. I recently fitted a Delphi which is identical to the original part (it is even marked with AP) but even this now has a copper pipe.

As Jon says, I think all slaves currently available have metal pipes. To avoid noise transmission into the cabin on the diesel, I recommend using either the original genuine Rover master cylinder (which has a plastic pipe to the quick release joint), or using the Tazu master but with a flexible brake hose in place of the copper pipe (a bit fiddly to sort out). I am not sure if the metal slave might not make noise transmission a bit more likely - I have the Tazu metal slave on my car, and I do get a bit of diesel 'grr' noise coming into the car when changing gear, even with a Rover master with plastic pipes. I am not so convinced about the merits of the metal slave now- after 7,000 miles, I have a bit release bearing noise coming through when the clutch pedal is held down. I hope it does not fail- I am not in the mood for another clutch change (the fifth on my car !).

Cheers

Pete

According to the previous owner my clutch is only one year old but now I have to replace it because of quite loud release bearing noise always when the pedal is pressed. The sound seems to come from a dry bearing so is this common with these Rover slaves? In my experience these bearings should generally last longer than the clutch itself.

The bearings definately dont last as long as the clutch if the car is driven properly.

My thrust bearing only lasted about 4 years/35000 miles since it was replaced in 2014. I’m getting on a bit now, and drive slowly, gentle gear changes, don’t drive with my foot on the clutch etc.

Just had it replaced again – done by somebody who knows what he’s doing this time, but whether that makes a difference I don’t know, as the parts may just be a shayte design…?

Sorry Pete, no idea what the failed ones were... the one which has just been fitted is the kind that DMGRS supplies, with the metal cylinder...

From what I've learned about the previous garage since, the last one was probably made of cornflakes packets and duct tape.
