Tailgate problem
I have a tourer and yesterday went to open the tailgate and nothing. It was as if the lock was not working. The same applied to the rear window, that would not open either. tried using the buttons in the centre console to lock and unlock the doors several times but still the tailgate and rear window stay locked. Tried the boot release inside the drivers door again with no success. Ended up dropping the rear seats and dragging stuff in and out that way.
Got home last night and hey presto its working again. Is this a sign of something on the way out or a one off that no one has heard of before? If it happens again is there another way of getting the tailgate open? My drivers door only opens on the key which seems to be a common fault and I now have a replacement lock. Are the two issues related?

The tailgate won't unlock unless the car is stationary, if you press the release button before the car has come to a complete stop, it won't operate. If it happens again, switch the ignition on and then off and it should work.
There is a manual release for the tailgate, open holder for the emergency triangle under the window, in one corner is a plastic button attached to a piece of cord, pull the cord and it will open the tailgate, there is a similar button and cord behind the offside wheel arch trim to open the fuel flap. |

Remove the inner trim from around the window and check the plugs by the N/S hindge. I suspect you have a loose connection, it is highly unlikely that the door and window locks have gone faulty at the same time

You will also notice that the looms pass inside the yellow metal trim clips, make sure a wire has not got trapped and damaged
