The misfires registered in the ecu were only one two cylinders.

Looks like the problem was the coil packs.

I had disconnected the lambda sensor and thought it had fixed it, but the problem returned.

Fitted new coil packs yesterday and the problem hasn't returned, and I have done 6, 16 mile journies in the last two days.
