Default Diesel alternator info

Just got my alternator from Rimmer Bros (quick ddlivery i might add)
and opted for a genuine one which is about $50 aud more than their aftermarket one.
Box came with an mg rover sticker with the correct part number yle000261
and the correct fitting alternator but when i open the box i see a bit of paper with the specs and the model being an ALT840.
I would have thought the mg rover one would have been a Valeo as per original as Ive seen these ALT 840 alternators on ebay etc.
Dont get me wrong, the price wasnt to bad but is this not an afternarket alternator? and if so, why did i pay $50 more for it ?

Xpart handle the spares now as you know but they source them to match specs. Look at automatic brake pedal rubbers as an example - now made in India. Some of the manufacturers of the originals may well have gone bump now as it has been a long time so when they need a new run of stock maybe no choice.

On top of that many manufacturers now supply reman parts as part of their environmental credentials. I believe it's Jag? If you buy an injector it will be a reman.

Dont mind buying aftermarket but really why market somthing as mg rover stock when it really isnt, in terms of origin its just the same as the cheaper aftermarket one they list, its not as the original (valeo) which i assume are still made.I wonder what difference the cheaper aftermarket one is, maybe same unit with a plain box ?
The unit seems decent enough and does the job but just an observation.

The Chinese now make everything for everybody, who only stick their own label on it, and charge more. Caveat emptor

It's been like this globally for the last 40 years, probably longer..
