Default Replace Auto Gear Knob

Hi

i have had to buy a new gear knob for my auto rover 75 - This may sound daft but does anyone know to replace them !

I've tried just pulling it off but it doesn't seem to budge ? Does the shift have to be in N, D, P etc......?

I have taken the top silver press off and it reveals a wite plastic rod. does this need to come out first ??

The new replacement does not seem to have anything through the middle so im guessing the white stick is needed

Thank for the help!

Mind you.... there has been a suggestion that you should have someone holding a pillow up to the windscreen before pulling to prevent cracked windscreens.....

There are also stories of people receiving nose bleeds as a result of pulling

So please be aware that this procedure could be detrimental to your health and the car's well being

My "shift stick" comes out with a gentle tug, or a coat catching on it Others have has the above experiences

Is the V8 auto the same though?
The manual V8 is different from the V6 for example.

I'm 70% sure they are different. The V8 one has a Ford end but will need to check my technical data if no one knows for sure.

Looking at the technical data, it says 'pull' to remove. No mention ofit needing to be in a specific position

Default Save Yourself!!

Hi

this forum has been very helpful previously and i've learnt a lot !

I was pulling at the gearshift and prepared myself for lauching through the sunroof quicker than James Bond, but my mate pointed out that there is a little hole on the front side of the knob that accomadates a little alan key !!

Releasing this screw allows you to easliy pull the gear knob off and slide the new one on !!

I praised this website to him but he hasn't let that me forget my stupidity ! but i appreicate everyones help and I hope this helps !!

All the best
