Doing 70 on the inside lane of the A34 this afternoon a pheasant decided to cross the road. Got to be honest I thought it a fox. Watching dash cam footage 2 seconds from visible to impact, not sure I saw it as soon as it become visible on dash cam.
Had a quick look and have not spotted any damage, cant say the same for the pheasant, unfortunately from what I saw in centre mirror, its dead. Got about a hundred yards from home and a cat scared a horse, it turned its back on me and kicked. Goodness it came close to kicking the car. I think the pheasant is the second "animal" I've hit in 36 years. macafee2 |

Only thing I know I took out was a sparrow back in my motorcycling days. Saw it fly at me but didn't realise I'd hit it until a few days later when I found it, rather overcooked, wedged between the exhaust down pipes! Train driving was a different matter, several heffers, foxes, numerous pheasants. One thing you couldn't kill with a train was a crow, they always got out of the way apart from when the IC125s first came out. They ran at a higher speed than normal trains and took the crows by surprise but they soon got wise to it.

Cat x 1
Squirrel x 1 Owl x 1 Pheasant x 1 Pheasant must have been a tough old bird because it bounced off the front of the Maestro and flew up into a tree Sadly can't say the same about the others. I was going home from night work at about 3am, an owl was sat on the crest of a hill on the A38 eating something else that had been killed. I crested the hill just caught a glimpse and clipped it's head on the underside of the car. The other 2 ran out in front of me, nothing i could safely do. |

A "six pointer" deer, 20 minutes from the airport in the US. Local police said that if I had been in a car, rather than the people carrier, he would have taken me out rather than the other way around. When we got to my uncle's house he wanted to know why we hadn't strapped it to the roof and brought it home!

My last casualty was a baby fox :-(.
Was in my security van and saw it run out just in front of me and freeze in my headlights. To late and dangerous to swerve so tried to pass over it, hoping it would pass safely under the van, unfortunately, van didn't have enough clearance and heard it hit something underneath. It did upset me for a while especially as it was only a baby.
