Now only the big ones survive and they dont keep this marque when it comes in they send them straight to the crusher.
Yep! same thing has been happening here Jon... Trents would have a section on their website where you could check what's coming in, I loss count how many MG Rovers would just get sent straight to the crusher without even entering the DIY parts yard... I got fed up of asking in the end.

Been there and done that on a Cortina! A mate and myself fited a engine and gearbox in a Midget without a engine hoist the one weekend.

To be honest I have stopped going to Trent’s and Silverlake (across the border in Hampshire) some years ago. I don’t think Rovers or MG’s are even listed on the salvage options at Silverlake

So a big hats off!! to the Traders on here who have been nothing short of stupendous with my needs for the MG ZT-T.

A PM and a few emails - very fair prices - and the parts arrive at my door.

Fantastic service.

When the guys on here tell me the S/H part is in good condition my own experience has been exactly that.

Sometimes in the past I have got stuff from a breakers yard myself that turned out to be useless due to my own ignorance.

So now I put my faith and money with the guys listed on here.

My favourite local breaker shut their doors a couple of years ago - a firm roasting by Environmental Health I believe.

The glory days of trudging through oil-laced mud to pull out fuel pumps and injectors from L Series engines to re-sell on eBay for beer money will never be forgotten. Oh to be 18 again!

I had so much fun that day, getting my £30 worth, and staggering 12ft without dropping it, that I went back the following day, and got another £30 worth.

Now I think my knees couldn't take the 12ft dash anymore !

Pity you forgot about the service part. I lost track of the number of cars going straight to crushing, even after requesting a stay of execution. But if you forget that the customer pays your wages, one day, your wages will stop being paid !!!

So true Mark, so true.

Its typical of what is happening around our area Mark, we live in a wealthy retirement area. Many services that once was are no longer, Charles Trents in Poole saw a significant reduction in demand for self service DIY parts, hence why the Rugby branch is still open and thriving.

It is most certainly a real pain for us locals, there has been a few times now where I have wanted to pop in and grab a few things, even though MG Rover vehicles rarely made it to the DIY yard as you say, straight to the crusher due to lack of demand.

Brings back memories. My SD1 2.3 engine committed hari-kari, and I located a 2.6 engine in a local scrapyard in an area known locally as " over the border".
I asked stupidly, " is delivery available ?", got the reply, " yeah to the pavement outside".
As it happened there was a builders pick up truck in there, picking up something or other.
I asked if they could take my engine to the garage, for a couple of quid.
Kindly, they did, so there I was, sat in the back of a builders wagon, hugging a dirty big hump of an engine, sitting atop of all manner of rubble, as we made our way through the town centre of Middlesbrough. A sight to behold, we got there though !!

Remember getting a 100e Ford engine out with some rope round my shoulders. The scrapyard was at Fradley near Lichfield. That’s going back around 60 years. Don’t know about the ‘good old days’ , but we certainly weren’t afraid of getting things done. Pity today’s young men want mostly to keep their little donnies clean.
