Yikes!
I read the posts with an swinging jaw. I chickened out of changing the alternator, never mind changing the brushes in-situ.
Any chance of decorating my hall for me - through the letterbox! Best wishes, Frank |

ok if just found this post and had a quick look down at the regulator.i have a question looking at mine (see picssorry it's not too clear) there off a large lump of metal right behind the plug and it doesent look like there's room for it to pull back as the socket looks too deep?
any thoughts thanks Scott Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk |

Just changed the brushes in the alternator on one of our cdti's a bit fiddly but a lot better than trying to change the whole alternator. Total cost £7.29 and I still have 2 spare brushes & a slip ring. Just fired the old girl up switched everything on and charging at 14.6 volts. This club really is very good value for money.

You were lucky, the slip ring must have been good still.
I did the brush replacement in car, no joy, pulled out the alternator and got a rebuild kit, new slip ring bushes etc and it works great. Getting the alternator out is a pain |

Hi,
I just replaced my voltage regulator (2003 Rover 75 CDT). After connecting all back on, cranked the engine and light was off, started live measuring of the voltage, revved up the engine and when it reached about 1500 rpm and voltage was going up to about 13....light went back on intermittently and voltage dropped to 12.3 (little load and full battery). I did not check the fuse 36 yet, but anything else I should check first? |

Did you check the slip rings??
They are often worn down to the cream coloured plastic insulation underneath

Not yet, will try somewhere during the weekend. Unfortunately didn't check when regulator was off. . Fuse 36 was all good by the way.

believe that in this thread the only thing replaced was the brushes not the intire regulator...
any reason why? i bought the entire regulator pack, will try to do it next day or so. left a open thread because of it in how to posts... wouldn it be easy to just replace the entire pack??? no need to solder also i believe from what it seems... thanks. |

If you look at the 1st post from OP David Lawrence it means the entire brush reg pack (see his photos)
