Just had a look, tescos employ pretty much the same amount of people every year for the past 5 years in the UK.

Maybe so, but how much extra turnover with the same amount of staff?

Tesco cut 1200 head office jobs..also cutting night shift workers, to pay for the £3.7 Billion Bookers takeover?

I don't think that matters, turnover could change for all manner of reasons.

If you think they've cut jobs because of self service tills, fair enough. Me, I don't think so as I can't see evidence of it.

I have a feeling that peoples shopping habits have changed quite a bit, you go to the supermarket and often struggle to find a small trolley and sometimes even a basket..which, could mean we are not buying a weeks worth of food in one go like we used to..

So logically, if you have more people with less shopping you would need to change the checkout system to cope with it hence, more and more self checkouts appearing. Just a thought.

My local tesco has had the same staff for 20 years. Certainly no evidence of a high turnover there.

20 Years! That's longer than most inmates in the 'Bar L'. But the 'Bar L' doesn't have Self Checkouts

Im not saying they have cut jobs, but they are certainly not increasing staff levels to coincide with growth.
