Default XP Home Networks,

Having bought a new PC ( Thnaks again Rob), and BT have sent me a home hub, I thought I really should get them networked so the wife and children can get on the web whilst I'm in here.

Last time I did this was with ME and it was pretty straight forward.

Now I'm running XP Pro, and I seem to be having problems.....

I've run network wizzard on both machines to allow them to link via the HH, but they can't see each other...

Any suggestions where to start....?

Cheers

JDC and GG are pretty good with computers, why not give them a tug, I am certain that they will be able to answer your question.

open the command prompt on each PC but clicking on start and run and typing CMD into the bar. Click OK

When the prompt opens type ipconfig and jot down the ip address.

It should be something like 192.168.x.x

Once you have the numbers, ping them. On the command prompt again, ping the other machine.

EG. If the other machine was 192.168.2.3 you would type (on the other PC) ping 192.168.2.3. Repeat the process vice versa on the other machine.

Let us know what it says.

Its likely to be firewalls.

Control Panel, Security Centre, firewall, disable. (plus any 3rd party firewalls you have)

Then ping them again and see if you get a reply. Once you've done that, we'll go from there.

Top man, disabled Norton firewall, and I can see both ways. Trying to work out how to add IP addresses to Norton so I can turn the firewall back on...
