Clutch pedal stiff

I've noticed my clutch pedal is starting to feel stiff on occasions, feels like I'm pushing against a hard rubber block, gear changing can also be difficult at times (no pedal to floor as yet though).

I suppose this would indicate a clutch master cylinder problem, and not the clutch itself (have no clutch plate or thrust-bearing fault noise).

Can I get away with just changing the clutch master cylinder, or will topping up the fluid work, I suppose I better check it first.

It can be debris in the fluid in the valve at the end of the M/C. Try a bleed first. easiest option or strip the m/c and clean it all.

I have a similar ocurrance,But most times the clutch is light and then others it is noticeabilly heavy still havnt worked it out.

That is exactly how I feel John, I have always thought this when I first bought the red one. Sometimes the clutch pedal would feel hard/stiff, other times all would seem fine, and I would forget about it.

I dont drive the car that often, and have been driving several other newer cars lately, so I may just feel that my ZT's clutch is heavy than most. My blue ZT has a heavy clutch, but doesn't seem as heavy as the red, so I too am unsure.

When and if it cools down over here I am going to give it a flush thru.Will let you know what happens.I fitted a Tazu metal MC a couple of years backand has always been OK.

I've just been out and had a quick look, how the hell is one meant to work in that small space, and why on earth is the MC black?

The fluid level seems fine.

It must be me, maybe I'm becoming paranoid.

I hate to say it Wes, but my pedal started to feel stiff and then I had a terminal slave cylinder failure.

I hope it is not the case with your car.

I reckon that will be the case Bob, she is on 102k, bound to be the original.

What exactly happened with yours Bob, is it a case of pedal hitting the floor?

The pedal was stiff, but the biting point was fine.
Then one day it just went, no clutch at all.

I think that low biting point is normally due to master cylinder problems/ air in the system, but a stiff clutch indicates other clutch issues, such as the slave or the release bearing.

I do have a low biting point.

I may just book her in and get her looked at, trouble is finding a decent and trustworthy garage.
