Do you think that could be the problem?

Mine used to 'stick' when on choke, and also have a bad fuel smell, I got a rebuild kit and fitted it (20 min job) and it was much better afterwards.

If it's a Petrol smell at start up at the Exhaust ONLY I would'nt think there's anything wrong.

Interesting. I've noticed a fuel smell at start up, but only with a door open or when outisde of the car. I'll now have to put my nose up the exhaust pipe. Just need to wait for the neighbours to go out first.

If the engine isn't burning all the fuel injected then there's something fundamentally wrong with the engine management. If unburnt fuel is detected at the tail pipe then your catalytic converter may not be working. I'd say that you do have a problem Stu; maybe the lambda sensors. Reading any fault codes would be a good start.
