Why would you need to keep spare fuel in the car, I never ever let my cars drop below half a tank.

Currently have a problem with a faulty fuel gauge which I don't have time to fix

Don't even wait for the light to come on, 1/4 is empty. Plus an empty plastic gallon tank/bottle. Not that I'm paranoiac or anything.

Prevention is better than cure....... When I go on a long journey..FULL TANK.. there will always be a garage somewhere en route to use when fuel dips between 1/2 and a 1/4.... Do I want a gallon of fuel sat in my boot mere feet away from my son...no...

in forty years of driving never ever carried fuel in the boot. But in forty years of driving I have never ever run out of fuel.

If you are that worried of running out of fuel once your tank gets to 1/2, the next garage you come across fill her up....

As I said earlier, my fuel gauge is faulty - its not an option to make sure it never gets below half as I cant tell where half is

Back in the very distant past, when petrol was 4 gallons a pound , I used to carry a can of fuel, but found that I was giving it away to other guys who had run out rather than using it my self. Gave up .
