Teddy Row Teacher Pardoned.
Just in case anybody has missed the Good News.
Mrs Gillian Gibbons (54) from Liverpool, has been given a full Pardon in Sudan, after meetings between two British Muslim Lords from the UK and Sudan's President. She has been released and will leave the Country as soon as Possible. This all started through School Children naming their Teddy Bear Mohamed. Great News, Common sense seen in the end to what has become very Embarrassing to Sudan throughout the World. Last edited by JohnDotCom; 3rd December 2007 at 12:43.. |

It is good news.
A stupid thing like this should never happen in the first place though.

Such magnanimity.......
Not sure which is worse...her stupidity or their intolerance... Still, a positive outcome Last edited by Zeb; 3rd December 2007 at 09:00.. |

I think there are double standards here.
When we have migrant workers, holiday makers, tourists and other visitors to our country, don't we expect them to follow our laws? If a foreign national breaks the UK law in the UK, wouldn't we expect them to be subject to the UK judiciary system? Even if they think our laws strange or petty a foreign national shouldn't be "let off" when they break the law of the land. Surely the same should apply when we visit other countries; follow their laws and customs or risk the consequences. Anyway, I'm just going to drive on the left side of the road all the way across Europe to China, where I intend to preach democracy whilst buring the Chinese flag. After all, the UK press and government will ensure my prompt release from any gaol (that's jail for our Welsh friends :lol. |

Double standards? Yes, she was stupid and had no business being there with that level of ignorance. Equally, to have a rabble demanding she be shot demonstrates intolerance of (probably) a minority. However, it changes not the fact that she was 'convicted' of 'religious hatred'....which my Muslim mates think is laughable in this case and makes the Sudanese look very silly but at the same time sends a damaging message about tolerance.....and Islam.....after all Islam means 'Peace' - amongst other things.....
