no , thew only way for a petrol pump to work is if you fit the rest of the petrol car to it

'USP' - is that a new one for the Abbreviations & Acronyms listing? What does it mean? (It normally stands for the United States Pharmacopoeia).

The pump you are refering to is abbreviated to ITP, (in tank pump) lol

I have thought about the difference between the petrol and diesel in tank pumps and as far as I can see they can not be much difference. The petrol injection system runs at about 3 bar max pressure and the low pressure diesel system seems to be rated at 2.5 bar input pressure to the HP pump.As far as I can see the only problem would be if the petrol pump is internally incompatible with diesel fuel due to the materials used in its construction, but cant really see why it would be.If they are compatible then it may be possible to run just with the in tank pump as in the latter cars.

Different fuel viscosities, especially as it gets a bit colder.
