Default advice on an electric polisher

Today having washed the car I went on to polish and wax the boot.
No way could I go on to do the whole car, wax on, wax off, arms fall off

In light of wearing my arms out just doing the boot I'd like to consider an electric polisehere/waxing machine. This probably has been asked before.

A search on the internet and this came up a few times as a good one but is only 120v Porter-Cable 7424XP 6-Inch Variable-Speed Polisher

this too comes up as good and is 240v but too expensive for me
Meguiar's MT300 Pro Power DA Polisher

if i act with caution how much of a risk is there in going through the paint? I can imagine using an electric polisher, one is more likley to polish the same area for longer then doing it by hand.

what is the advice on buying an electirc polisher?

thank you

DA means dual action, i.e. the disc moves from side to side rather than in one direction. These are considered safer for beginners - less likely to cut into the paint.

If you got to the detailing world forum there is often a group buy deal on the DAS Pro polisher. Gets it down to under £100 I think.

All polishers are roughly the same, all do the same job, its mainly down to technique mate

I got myself one of these:

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/4645777.htm

It's pretty good all things considered, just take it slow. I would recommend maybe a slightly 'lower grit' polish, maybe dont go in with G3 cutting compound etc.

'Meguiars Ultimate Compound' is quite soft so you wont burn the paint - but only really good for light scratches etc.

I use both of the above and with a good shampoo and actually use a 'waterless wash and wax' as a 'quick detailer'

Have a play around and read up on Detailing world etc

Cheers,
