Default Rear damper reisitance

The rear dampers seem not to have much resistance when I push them down or pull them apart.

I assume the springs deal with the movement of the wheel rising towards the chassis, what does the damper do, slow movement of wheel down from chassis or stop the arm from falling to far and allowing the spring to drop out?

should there be much resistance?

There should be a ‘resonable’ Resistance to compressing the damper. It Will obviously stop to much downwards movement also, so the spring will not fall out as you say.Are they the original ones?

No idea if original. They are Delphi, I should check to see if they have a rover sticker on them.
Reasonable.... perhaps there is an I don't think it enough.

I don’t know what the original shockers were, but I have fitted Delphi to mine. I still have the originals in the shed, amongst all the other ‘junk’ my wife says I keep in there. I only swapped them for ‘ preventative maintenance’. I will have a look at them tomorrow to see what the resistance is like. I will let you know what make they are if it’s still still marked on the sticker.
