I would agree with others, it doesn’t look like part of the OE wiring.

Thanks everyone.
It disappears into the wiring harness under the fuse box and everything works as it should.
I will tape it up for now. Maybe if I get round to installing front parking sensors I could tap into it for power.

Glad it's not important as putting everything back together only to pull it all apart again would be rather annoying.

Thanks again for all your input. You've put my mind at ease.

Hmmm, if it disappears into the harness, then it may well have been installed at the factory. Or, it was a very, very detailed installation of something. It is not easy to put wires into a factory harness after the car is built. Does the harness look tampered with?

Have you metered the contacts to determine which wire is ground and if any are powered with or without the ignition ON?

Like others said, if the car is performing as it should and everything works, I wouldn't worry about it.

Cheers,
Glenn

My multimeter isn't working
On further inspection it runs under the crash bar to the driver side then to the firewall. I expect to find the other end in the centre panel in the cabin. It is wrapped around the loom and very nicely done.
My guess is it was for a radar detector considering the positioning.

This all came about while replacing all my lights with LED's. Now they are a nice white (6500k) and much brighter. I used a phone app LUX meter held directly to the headlight to test.
Old halogen read at 25,000 LUX new LED lamps show 110,000 LUX.
I know it doesn't translate to over 4 times as useful as a driving aid but they are a lot better in real use at night.
They are properly aimed so not a glare issue.
Very pleased.

I just went off topic on my own topic.

I believe that the extra wiring in the underbonnet fusebox area of your car, is related to the remote volume control of the jukebox installed in this pub in Saville Street in North Shields.................

.......or did I just make that up on spec
