The Atlantic Blue 75 gets more TLC.
I got on the car yesterday knowing it had a wet carpet, I also knew I was taking out the interior for a full valet and deep cleaning. After taking out the carpet and finding Burt Lancaster's swimming trunks in a pool of water, I set to work drying it off, I completely forgot the plenums before drying the water out, I noticed it was seeping down the nearside bulkhead and keeping the floor wet. I took off the scuttle to find about four inches of water in there, it was seeping through the pollen filter and into the car. A good rodding and cleaning out the debris of 16 years later, I was left with a filthy and soaking filter and forming a plan. I've not given much thought to the scuttle clips before but, It's obvious they can be a problem. I blew out the clips and dried them off, I also dried around them and filled them with a silicone sealer to the top, after that I used Mammoth foil tape to seal them, it's good stuff and won't dry out. My theory is that the silicone will dry around the clips but allow removal, the tape will stop water creeping in around the edges, put both together and it should be job done.
I re-fitted the scuttle panel and pushed the clips through the foil into the silicone, once hardened it should make a watertight seal around them. It's cost about £3 as I had the tape and silicone to hand. I've put a new pollen filter in and the interior of the car has stayed dry in the rain today, the rear light seals are weeping yet and I'll do them tomorrow. If I've managed to seal this part of the car as well as I think it has, I'll be very happy. Last edited by Saga Lout; 22nd November 2016 at 16:39.. |
