Default heater cold on tick over

My 75 heater goes cold when you slow down or on tick over. If you take a bend sharp you get cold air blowing from the heater too. Rest of the time while driving its nice and hot. Strange thing to happen

The temperature is sitting half way. Plus the vent on the top of the dash is turned to off. Its just strange the way it goes to cold when standing at lights or just ticking over

The temp gauge is useless. You need to enter the instrument pack diagnostic mode to get an accurate reading

Could be due to a partial blockage in the heater matrix.

Something's restricting the flow rate generated by the pump. A silting-up matrix is a likely cause or possibly an air bubble inhibiting the flow at low revs. Try disconnecting the heater hoses at the firewall and back-flushing it through with a hosepipe. This may remove enough sediment to get the heater working properly.

Always ensure the antifreeze strength is maintained around 50%. Sedimentation is encouraged by poor coolant maintenance.

When you get the heater pipes off, pour some radflush into the top pipe using a funnel. Leave it to stand, then flush through. Alternatively use radflush in the rad as normal instructions, with the heater set to high and that may do the trick anyway.
