Default In line thermostat temp drop

I fitted the in line thermostat from europarts a few months ago and it ran at 86-88 degrees however this has now dropped to 81-82 degrees. Anyone any ideas as to the cause or is it just a case of replacing?

Sorry, cant advise about the cause for drop in temp, (other than stat failing), but mine runs at 81c all the time.
Doesn't seem to give it a "poor" performance so i am content to leave it as is.
Perhaps some other wise person could advise if an extra few degrees would make any difference.

My original inline stat was bought off ebay, lasted a few weeks. I replaced it with one I bought from local car accessories shop, for a Renault 5, which was more bell shaped. Runs at 86 degrees now.

I have bought another for £6 so will try that and see how it runs. Its just strange it was running fine.
Biggest concern will be getting the old one out of the hose.

Make a lasso with a lenght of wire to grab hold of the stat and pull it out

Thanks, good idea using the wire. Changed it and its exactly the same. Gets to 84-85 under load then stat opens and runs at 82degrees.

I'm guesssing the difference in running temp maybe because that stat is located in a different part of the coolant system (hotter) to the original so opens slightly earlier.
It seems you may need a higher rated stat to match the running temp of the original due to the change in location.
I imagine with a correctly working oem stat the coolant in the top hose would be approx 92-93 degrees when the stat opened.

I could be completely wrong however.I will replace the original at some point.
