By all means read any data in your own car but to ask someone to let them have a non technical bod playing with their car is a cheek if you ask me!
A decent test drive using your ears, eyes and common sense is all you need.

Its not normal practice and not the done thing and sellers could be suspicious. A seller would'nt be expecting you to be plugging in a laptop.

If something isn't right with a car, you should be able to find out whats wrong with a normal test drive and normal checks that you should do when buying a car.

I can't see this coming off Shawn for the reasons already given. I take your point about unscrupulous people tampering with the warning fault code lights in order to fool the customer and get a sale through. From recent posts, you do seem to like posting up about diagnostics, T4 etc and I wonder if there is another forum that the diagnostics gurus go to, where you could go and discuss/learn these things and swap ideas. Diagnostics is so very specialised I am sure that the gurus from BMW and Audi have forums where they could explore all matters including your question - that is if you don't get any joy here, try the Beemer's fraternity...just a thought in passing

Murphy has nailed it right on the head.

Can I ask who let him in again.

You would be dispatched from my property rather quickly, and there would be no need to open the gate

Mind you I would take the same action if you did not have a laptop under your arm

Nice to see you back and posting leading questions from the get go!

Personally I'd tell you to go and take a long walk off a short pier
