I always shoot in manual mode to allow me to set aperture, shutter, white balance etc. I set my own ISO when I have control of the lighting or it remains constant.
If the light is changing and I'm in a fast paced shoot environment such as Motorsport or indeed an Airshow then I set the ISO to auto so that part of the exposure triangle is taken care of for me.

More important to me is to nail aperture and shutter as they dictate the 'look' of the image I'm wanting

I used to enjoy using my "anolog" cameras on manual settings, but I struggle with digital; much to my son's annoyance and that of my twelve year old grandson.

Wow! i'm blown away Jeff, superb absolutely superb shots all of them, as a big Red Arrows fan having seen them many times, close shots like you have captured really shows how dramatic, professional & top class they really are.
